Pass it Back Festival

Pass it Back Festival

Pass It Back is a sports development program that uses rugby to equip children and young people in disadvantaged communities in Asia to overcome challenges, inspire positive social change and “pass it back” to their communities. The organisation is acknowledged as a partner of World Rugby.

The Pass it Back charity is bringing four teams of girls aged 14-16 to Belfast from the 16th August - 23rd August 2017. Teams are from Japan, Vietnam, Laos and the Philippines. Staff will also be allocated to each team to aid communication and cultural acclimatisation.

Ulster Rugby, in conjunction with Belfast Harlequins Rugby Club, will be hosting an exciting Tag festival for the teams as well as local community groups on Tuesday 21st August.

Guides are being given a fantastic opportunity to get involved with this programme by playing in the festival themselves, and also taking part in the build-up initiatives. Before the festival begins (from February to June), Pass it Back will be on the search for a motivated and enthusiastic Guide representative(s) to engage with digital exchanges with the 4 visiting teams to build understanding through rugby, using it as a tool to explore and learn about gender issues around the world. Discussion topics include:

- Introductions and questions
- My family
- Rugby in my community
- Girls in my community
- My future

In a fun and relaxed environment, a girl Guide All-stars team will then be invited to take part in the festival and play against other teams.

As well as the touring teams, Pass it Back are looking to engage with young people from a variety of community groups and backgrounds. Groups include the Peace Players, the Girls Brigade and other under-represented groups in Northern Ireland.

Pass it Back will also be able to provide a coaching session (possibly hosted at Quins) to equip the Guides with enough understanding of the game before the event begins.

This event provides a fantastic opportunity for Guides to learn how to play a stimulating and fast-paced sport, whilst also getting the opportunity to meet girls and other young people from a variety of different countries and learn about their cultures.

The closing date for applying for this event is Friday 30th June, so if interested could you please contact Tracey though her email: Tracey@girlguidingulster.org.uk
